Quality Assurance Technician

Position Summary

Quality Assurance Tech is a specialty position in our bakery responsible for ensuring we produce, monitor, document, and protect our products. Techs perform a variety of quality control tests/inspections at various stages of the operational process to ensure products are received, manufactured, stored, and shipped to conform with all customers, company, and government food safety and quality specifications.

This position exercises technical knowledge, including training and making improvements under the direction of the Quality Assurance Manager. Techs should be able to ensure that daily testing expectations are met to increase the company’s overall productivity and efficiency. This position requires a very high level of attention to detail, documentation, and an ability to act as a member of a highly functioning team.

Essential Functions

  • Review the daily schedule at the start of each shift determining the days requirements, to plan and organize paperwork, tests, and documentation needed to support the team

  • Proactively address production issues that can negatively affect product safety and quality.

  • Accurately and promptly report, record, and communicate all findings and non-conformances to QA Management providing feedback and make recommendations to teams with instructions and trainings.

  • Complete daily reports and conduct follow ups to assure corrective actions are taken in a timely manner placing products and raw material on HOLD when required.

  • Collect and monitor product samples for Retention Program.

  • Assist with quality control data collection using various methods of testing and documentation.

  • Use and maintain QC equipment.

  • Monitor storage and holding temperatures.

  • Assist in the development, implementation and compliance of Food Safety Programs.

  • Assist with annual training of plant team members and training as needed concerning food safety deficiencies/corrective actions.

  • Utilize technical knowledge to prevent/identify the root cause of process/product failures and help develop corrective actions.

  • All functions and duties follow written and verbal instructions.

  • Maintain a professional and courteous attitude towards co-workers, management, customers, and clients.

  • Requires flexibility to fill in for absences including an availability for other shifts including those on weekends and holidays.

  • Requires all positions to utilize basic computer software for emailing, scheduling, requesting time off, setting up and maintaining pay and personal information as set forth by HR and QA Manager.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience as a QA/QC TECH with a firm understanding of allergen handling and GMPs is preferred but not required.

Required Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to learn QA/QC methods and standards and food safety regulations such as proper food handling, sanitation, and storage, documentation, and SOPs required.

  • Ability to work in variety of conditions, such as occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals, cold temperatures, and warehouse environments.

  • Demonstrates basic math and counting skills.

  • Position will require the ability to bend, stoop, and twist, pull, push, reach above shoulder level, wheel product in, out and around the bakery environment to in order to test machinery and product safely.

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment and adapt to frequent changes.

  • Must be able to speak, read, and write in English, being bilingual in Spanish is considered an asset.

  • Performs other duties which are deemed by management to be an integral part of the job, including but not limited to fulfillment of work schedules, adherence to attendance policies, and other applicable operating rules, policies and procedures as outlined.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods, including full shifts and overtime as required.

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, pushing, pulling, reaching overhead, and moving products or equipment throughout the facility.

  • Ability to safely work around moving machinery and production equipment.

  • Ability to work in varying temperatures and production environments typical of a bakery manufacturing facility.
